This morning Laia Sanz is our gal...To the casual observer it may look as if Laia Sanz simply picked up from where she left off at the GP of Portugal by securing a double win at the GP of Italy. But in reality she achieved much, much more than just her maximum 40-point haul.In Castiglion Fiorentino Laia looked a fitter and faster enduro rider than ever before. Setting a stunning time in the Friday evening super test – one almost 15 seconds quicker than any of her rivals – it was clear to see that she meant business.With many regarding the GP of Italy to have been a more demanding event than any other held so far this year, the dry and duty terrain and extreme heat took its toll on many riders. It was an event in which only the very strongest would survive, and the Spaniard annihilated her competition.Topping all but the opening two cross tests on day one Sanz ended her day a whopping five minutes clear of second placed Ludivine Puy. Determined to continue her domination of the Women's class and edge ever closer to a first Enduro World Championship title Sanz again comfortably topped the standings on day two. Laia makes short work of the Friday super test.But it's what happened during the final lap of the event that firmly underlines Laia's desire to win a first EWC crown. After hitting her foot against a rock on the technically demanding extreme test she broke her toe in three places. But the Gas Gas rider didn't quit.In crippling pain, and when most others would have stopped, Laia carried on.Fighting her way through the last enduro test, and then a further 20-minute liaison section, she kept her world championship aspirations alive and firmly on track. Exhausted, she arrived at the final check to win day two before she almost collapsed from the torment of it all.Laia's reward for battling through the pain barrier in Castiglion Fiorentina? A 12-point championship advantage with just one round of the Woman's EWC remaining.
