Lynn stripped of Silverstone win
Alex Lynn has lost his maiden British Formula 3 International Series win at Silverstone after officials gave him a 30-second penalty for a jumped start.
Points leader Jack Harvey has been given an identical penalty after jumping forward out of his grid slot on the red lights. Although he then started when the lights went out, he was deemed to be out of position.
The verdicts move the Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes of Lynn down to fourth, while Harvey’s Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen drops from third to eighth.
Jazeman Jaafar inherits the win, with Carlos Sainz Jr in second and Harry Tincknell third in a Carlin 1-2-3.
It also means that Harvey’s points lead has been slashed, with Jaafar and Fortec driver Felix Serralles, who moves from eighth to seventh in the results, just three points adrift.
A disappointed Lynn, who starts from pole for race three, said: “From looking at the video evidence it does look like a jumped start. It’s a bit annoying but it is what it is. Tomorrow I can win again – I’ve got the speed to do it.”
Ironically, the decisions gift Harvey a front-row start for Sunday’s second race, for which the top nine finishers from race one are reversed.
