Case takes hard-fought Ferrari win

Lorenzo Case held off series leader Alessandro Balzan to win a tense second Ferrari Challenge race at Vallelunga.

Case started the race from pole position, but found himself under pressure on the second lap when Balzan made a big play for the lead.

However, the Motor Piacenza driver held his nerve, forcing Balzan to run wide and drop back to third.

While Balzan (Ferrari Moscow) was quickly back into second place, the small break gave Case a chance to settle into a rhythm.

Despite applying plenty of pressure, it proved to be a rhythm that Balzan could not break, the pair finishing first and second, just 0.4 seconds between them.

Bjorn Grossman finished third to make it a Ferrari Moscow two-three, having shadowed the leaders for the entirety of the race.

Behind the top three there was a fierce battle between race one winner Alexandr Skryabin and Andrii Kruglyk. The battle came to a head on the last lap when the pair clashed, leaving Skryabin in the gravel and Kruglyk limping his way home to seventh.

The crash was good news for CDP’s Dario Caso, who inherited fourth ahead of Briton Alexander Martin and Max Blancardi.

Stefano Gai failed to take the start after his Ferrari Moscow entry was crashed heavily by Andrea Beluzzi in the first race.

In the Coppa Shell race, Franciso Guedes (Motor Piacenza) took a comfortable win from Alexey Basov (Ferrari Moscow) and Alessandro Vezzoni (Rossocorsa Pellin).
