Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio, 500E to Debut in November [2012 L.A. Auto Show]

2012 Fiat 500 Abarth Fiat’s range of bantam 500s is set to grow even larger this November, with the company debuting an electric 500 and a convertible version of the Abarth at the 2012 L.A. auto show. Chrysler and Fiat didn’t make the announcement, but the L.A. auto show’s official newsletter, sent out this week, talks about the pair’s debut.

Both vehicles will take the forms you’d expect. The 500 Abarth cabrio is an Abarth with the 500c‘s giant fabric sunroof, carrying over the hatchback’s 170-hp turbo four and five-speed stick. Marking the Chrysler Group’s first commercially available EV in the U.S., the 500E will carry a 100-hp electric motor—that’s only 1 hp down on the gasoline engine in a normal 500. Fiat and Chrysler aren’t terribly enthusiastic about the 500E, and pushed back its launch from 2012 to 2013. The plan is to sell or lease it in very limited numbers, and mainly just to satisfy California and federal regulators. (We just heard similar sentiments from a number of major suppliers and car company execs.)

We expect full info on the 500E and the Abarth cabrio as we get closer to the L.A. show.
