How Fuchs flew the flag for Peru

Story from www.wrc.com

But last weekend, the country added ‘rally driving’ to the list of its national treasures, as Nicolas Fuchs became the first Peruvian to claim victory on a round of the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship.
Driving a Symtech Racing Subaru Impreza, Fuchs’ maiden victory placed him into title contention for the next and final round in Spain, where there will be a thrilling six-way fight for the coveted crown.
“This win means a lot for me and my country,” he said. “We’re now in a position to fight for the championship although realistically it’s going be tough. But we’ve already seen that anything can happen on this series - so we’re certainly going to be giving it our best shot!”
Among the people to congratulate Fuchs at the finish was Subaru Tecnica International’s George Donaldson. “I know just how tricky these stages are, so Nicolas has done a great job to become the first Peruvian to win a major international event like this,” said Donaldson. “The fact that he did so with no problems, on stages that are notorious for being harsh and catching out even the world’s top drivers, just underlines the strength and quality of the cars.”
