Loeb: Hirvonen, Ogier to fight for title
World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb says he will enjoy watching the fight for next year’s title from afar – and he’s tipped his Citroen team-mate Mikko Hirvonen to go head-to-head with Sebastien Ogier.
Loeb has ruled Jari-Matti Latvala out of the scrap to become the first new name on the WRC silverware since 2003 due what he sees as the Finn’s inconsistency.
Loeb, who will contest as many as five rounds of next year’s WRC, said: “[The fight for the championship will] probably be [Mikko] Hirvonen versus [Sebastien] Ogier, if the Volkswagen is up there.
“There’s also the unknown of [Jari-Matti] Latvala has certainly got potential, but he’s not reliable. I don’t know if he can overcome that someday. I’ll have a look and it’ll be interesting to see. I’ll follow it a little bit in the helicopter and I’ll enjoy that.”
In addition to contesting Monte Carlo, Rallye de France and three others events, Loeb is expected to begin testing for Citroen’s first ever World Touring Car Championship entry early next season.
