Petty to stay with Ford in 2013

Marcos Ambrose, Petty, Charlotte NASCAR 2012Richard Petty Motorsports will continue its relationship with Ford in 2013, the NASCAR outfit announced on Friday.

The team switched from Dodge to the blue oval brand late in 2009.

It has since won two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, with Australian Marcos Ambrose taking consecutive victories at Watkins Glen in the past two years. He also won in the Nationwide Series at the same track in 2011.

RPM will continue to run two cars in Cup and a Nationwide entry.

While Michael Annett has been confirmed for the second-tier series, new deals have yet to be secured with current Cup drivers Ambrose and Aric Almirola, who race the #9 and #43 cars respectively.

“Our team relationship with Ford Racing has helped us win races and be competitive in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series,” said team co-owner Richard Petty.

“They have been our partner over the past three seasons and we’re proud to continue that relationship into next season, especially with the debut of the new Ford Fusion in the Sprint Cup Series. We expect to continue to win races and challenge for championships in both series with Ford Racing.”

Petty’s extended Ford deal ensures the number of Fusions on track in 2013 will grow with the imminent addition of Penske Racing to the Ford fold.
