Volkswagen Reveals Sporty-Looking R-Line Trim Level for Updated 2013 CC Sedan [Updated]

2013 Volkswagen CC R-Line

Update 10/19: Volkswagen has announced pricing for the CC R-Line, which will start at $33,020 with a manual transmission, and $34,120 with the dual-clutch automatic. That works out to be $1945 more than a base CC. The CC R-Line will go on sale at the end of the year.
As the saying goes, you’re better late than never, right? The refreshed 2013 Volkswagen CC sedan has been on sale for a few months, but only now has VW gotten around to showing us the aggressively styled R-Line version. Unlike the
brand’s full-blown R models, the R-Line cars essentially amount to trim levels that add a bit of cosmetic zest to a given VW model. In the case of the new CC, this holds true. (Wouldn’t an all-wheel-drive CC R with 300-plus-hp be fun? Keep dreaming, bucko.)

That’s not to say the CC R-Line’s upgrades aren’t worthwhile—the pieces add a bit of a sinister vibe to the swoopy sedan’s understated demeanor. The R-Line kit includes a more aggressive front bumper design with bigger intakes and larger fog lights, lower side skirts, 18-inch aluminum wheels, dark-tinted taillights, and a small R logo in the grille. Inside, there are stainless steel pedals; stainless doorsill plates are embossed with R-Line branding. VW also throws in rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated 12-way power front seats, a navigation system, and paddle shifters for R- Lines equipped with the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A six-speed manual also is available. As on the previous-generation CC R-Line, this new one comes powered solely by VW’s 200-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four.
