Marquez penalised for practice clash

Marc MarquezMoto2 world champion Marc Marquez will have to start his final race in the category from the back of the Valencia grid after being penalised for an incident with Simone Corsi in practice.

Corsi fell as Marquez dived down his inside into Turn 7 in the second practice session on Friday.

Marquez had already been on a warning after an incident with Mika Kallio at Motegi.

Race direction ruled that Marquez “rode in an irresponsible manner” in the clash with Corsi.

Marquez said he had been surprised that his move caused an accident and had apologised to Corsi.

“I went to his box to say sorry because I think he’s a very good rider and I’ve always had a very good fight with him,” Marquez told the official MotoGP website.

“For me it was OK because I’ve passed many, many riders there, but Simone is one of the riders who brakes latest. I thought that I could pass like always, but when I looked behind and saw he’d crashed, I was worried.”

Marquez’s Monlau team chose not to appeal.

The Spaniard clinched the 2012 Moto2 crown with third place at Phillip Island a fortnight ago. He will join the Honda MotoGP team in place of retiring ex-champion Casey Stoner next season.
