Jake Dennis’s career so far

Jake Dennis is a kid almost born into racing. From an early age he spent his weekends at kart tracks watching his dad Steve race successfully in ‘Super 4′ – the UK’s national short-circuit 250 gearbox karting championship.

Dennis Sr bought his son his own kart for his eighth birthday, but Jake didn’t take to the sport like the proverbial duck to water. Initially he “hated” karting, but grew to love it as he drove and developed.

As with most young racers, the Dennis racing story began as a bit of fun for father and son – “just me and him in a van”, as Jake puts it. It was only when the Racing Steps Foundation came calling in 2008 that Dennis’s career began to take off.

With RSF support Dennis has become a winning machine – taking three successive titles in KF3 karting (capped by capturing the inaugural under 18s world championship in 2010) and two straight crowns in his first two seasons in car racing (the InterSteps championship for ex-Formula BMW cars in 2011, and the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC title this year).

By becoming the 24th recipient of the McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award in London last Sunday (and the youngest yet at 17 years, five months and 16 days old) Dennis has proven yet again that, despite his tender age, he is already a driver that knows how to win.

That knack will stand him in good stead as he continues his ascendant towards the pinnacle of our sport.
