Schumacher enjoys two-wheel return

Schumacher enjoys two-wheel return Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher enjoyed a two-wheel track day with bike legends John McGuiness and Randy Mamola and 2012 Moto2 runner-up Pol Espargaro last week.

The German announced his second retirement from grand prix racing after a three-year spell with Mercedes back in October

In November however he inferred that he was not ready to leave motorsport completely, saying his appearance in this year’s Race of Champions is not likely to be his last.

Schumacher tested for Ducati in 2007, and one year later finished third in a bike race held at the Hungarian track of Pannonia-Ring.

The German said he had been overjoyed to spend the day testing alongside such established two-wheel stars.

“Coming here today I felt so proud to be able to turn my hand at riding a bike with guys I really admire,” Schumacher explained.

“I can’t begin to explain how much fun it was to ride the track with the likes of John, Randy, [endurance racer] Keith [Flint] and watching Pol Espargaro’s huge talent.”

McGuiness said he had been impressed with Schumacher’s pace, adding: “Riding with Michael was so good. What he’s achieved on four wheels makes him the Godfather of motorsport.

“I wasn’t expecting him to be anything less, but he’s fast. You can see his enthusiasm for motorcycles and it was a massive pleasure to spend the day with him.”
