Streetley Brightens Title Chances

Week 11 brought the iRacing.com Skip Barber Series to Circuit Park Zandvoort, located in The Netherlands, using the “Grand Prix” layout. The European styled, flowing circuit features 13 turns over 2.671 miles (4.299 km) of asphalt.  The week saw 690 sim-racers take to the track in a race session, 309 place a qualifying lap, and 134 complete a time trial, all being significantly less than the two weeks prior.  None the less, we witnessed some great online racing this week.

Zandvoort may have lacked in numbers . . . but not fierce competition.

George Streetley (England) led the way in the week’s final standings, scoring 204 points in the 3594 SOF race, which he started from the second position and trailed Norbert Sulzer (DE-AT-CH) closely for the entire race.  Streetley was able to bring it home in second place, with two incident points, only 0.253 second behinds the leader.  Streetley also competed in three other races throughout the week, where he scored one victory, and two other second place finishes to Paul F Grillo (Celtic).

Norbert Sulzer (DE-AT-CH) was next in the week’s standings, scoring 197 points after his top two scores were averaged.  He scored these by taking the victory in both a 3594 SOF and a 2871 SOF race. Sulzer started from the pole position and lead from flag to flag scoring a maximum of one incident point throughout these two races.  Sulzer competed in three other races throughout the week, where he scored another victory and two second place finishes to Petteri Kotovaara (Finland).

Petteri Kotovaara (Finland) was next in the week’s standings, scoring 191 points in the 3137 SOF race which he started from the pole position and never looked back.  Leading from flag to flag, he took the victory by 6.466 seconds with only one incident point.  Kotovaara also competed in three other races where he scored three more victories.

The remainder of the top ten for Week 11 included, Kevin Vaughn (Texas), Paul F Grillo (Celtic), Jon Tanko (Iberia), Tommaso Carla (Italy), Ramon Sprecher (DE-AT-CH), Rudi Reinkort (Central-Eastern Europe), and Mike McCormick (Texas).

The overall standings saw another lead change this week.  As we predicted, George Streetley (England) took the lead by a marginal amount over Ramon Sprecher (DE-AT-CH).  Tommaso Carla (Italy) and Norbert Sulzer (DE-AT-CH) remain in the same order with little change.  Paul F Grillo (Celtic) now lies in fifth position, over taking Luca Zanetti (Italy) who now sits sixth.  The remainder of the top ten includes Kevin Vaughn (Texas), Samuel de la Fuente (Iberia), Wojciech Rabsztyn (Central-Eastern Europe) and Paul Ezerski (Midwest).

Next week we will head back to the USA for the final week of the championship, with West Virginia’s Summit Point Raceway playing host.  With a tight first turn, starts can get hairy at times which could make or break the championship for a few.  Be sure to check back next week for coverage of the iRacing.com Skip Barber Series from Summit Point.  Also keep your eyes on inRacingNews.com for updates on other series throughout the service, and many other informational articles to please the interest of any race fan!
