Ferrari confirms Massa to end of ’13
Felipe Massa will stay at Ferrari for another season after the Italian squad confirmed a new deal for the Brazilian driver on Tuesday.
Massa’s position alongside Fernando Alonso was in doubt for several months after a poor start to the season during which he struggled to even score points.
Before this year’s Japanese Grand Prix, the Brazilian had last been on the podium in 2010 in Korea.
Massa, however, turned his form around and began to show the kind of competitiveness Ferrari wanted from him, a resurgence that has secured him a contract extension, as reported by AUTOSPORT on Sunday.
The Ferrari driver has been with the team since the 2006 season, during which time he has scored 11 wins. He finished runner-up to Lewis Hamilton in the 2008 world championship.
Massa said after the Korean Grand Prix that he believed he was back to his best following a difficult period.
“I feel very strong now, to be honest,” he said. “I feel in a strong direction, driving the car more in an automatic way, so I am much more happy.
“To put everything together is really nice, so the most important thing is to go in the car and have fun. When you go in the car and you don’t have fun or be happy, even if you have one of the best jobs in the world, it is not nice.
“If you are not happy you cannot do the job in the right direction. So the situation is now happier and much better.”
