O’Young returns to WTCC with Bamboo

Darryl O'YoungDarryl O’Young will return to Bamboo Engineering for the final three rounds of the World Touring Car Championship.

The 32-year-old Hong Kong driver left Special Tuning Racing last week and will now drive for Richard Coleman’s Chevrolet Cruze squad alongside Alex MacDowall at Suzuka, Shanghai and Macau.

O’Young said he was delighted to be heading back to the team with which he raced Lacetti and Cruze machinery in 2010 and ’11 and finished fourth and sixth in the WTCC independents’ trophy.

“I had two great years with the bamboo team and having seen the progress Alex MacDowall has made this season, I know it’s a great package,” said O’Young.

“I’m very much looking forward to driving the Cruze again and I have to thank Richard, the team and the sponsors Interush and LKM for making this possible.

“It’s going to be a great end to the season and I hope I can get some more podiums for the team to repay them for their belief in me and my ability to showcase their car to its full potential.”

The Cruze that O’Young will race has already been driven by Pasquale di Sabatino, Robb Holland and Michel Nykjaer, the latter winning the independents’ class at Curitiba.
